There are many ways to participate in the life of the body of Christ in a local church. From evangelism and discipleship initiatives to prayer, home visits, church beautification projects, etc. – every member has a vital service role in the local church with his or her spiritual gifting from the Lord. (Rom 12:3-8) More than that, the primary reason God gave servant-leaders (elders & deacons) to the churches according to the apostle Paul was
to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. (Eph 4:12-13)
This is only accomplished through humble, active service to the Lord – leaders and congregation participating together in the life of Christ – in church, in home and in community.
A car’s true value is never realized when it idles in the driveway. Nor is a person’s true value realized just idling in the pew. If we are ever to increase our spiritual net worth before the Lord we must share our ‘gifts’ and spend all we have in service to our great King and Savior. We have no fear of going ‘bankrupt’ if we live this way, for the Lord Himself will repay us richly for what we have done. (Rom 2:16-17)
What Paul says to a young pastor is true for all Christians: a truly spiritual man or woman whose life is grounded upon Bible truths and “trained in righteousness” will not be content to sit on their intellect, but be active in faith – “equipped for every good work.” (2Tim 3:16-17) Their faith will be evidenced not in words alone, but also in works. (James 2:26)
If you are ready to serve the Lord in our church, please connect with Pastor Jeff or one of our leaders to discuss some ways in which you can be grounded, trained, and active in helping others in the body – and in our community – according to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
